Updating your links for Impression ReportingAssociates who have numerous existing Basic Display Product Links and Text Links can easily take advantage of impression reporting by using our Link Update Script. Instead of spending time building new links with impression-counting tags to replace your existing links, you can simply copy the Link Update Script into your web page or web template.
To use the Link Update Script:
1) Highlight and copy the HTML
2) Paste the HTML at the end of each web page you wish to update. The HTML should go after your content and before the closing "body" tag. If you use a web template you can paste this script into the "footer" or other end-of-page template, as long as it comes after your content and before the final "body" tag.
1) Links within a frame.
2) Links generated via Amazon Web Services ECS.
3) Links not matching valid Amazon link formats. For example links that do not begin with "http" or other redirect formats will not be counted by the Link Update Script.
The following are answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
A: The script will not run. You web page should render as normal.
Q: Will the Link Update Script have any impact on when a session is tagged with my Associates ID?
A: No. A visitor's session will still only be tagged with your Associates ID when the visitor explicitly clicks on the link to Amazon.co.uk. The Link Update Script will not change this behavior.
Q: What information will the Link Update Script record?
A: In addition to counting the impression, we will record the Associates ID and link type for each impression.
Q: Will the Link Update Script record personal information?
A: No. We will not be recording any personal information nor will we be capturing information, such as IP address, that could be used to identify a user. In addition, we will not access the Amazon cookie on a user's computer. It is standard behavior for a browser to automatically send any Amazon cookies on a user's computer to the www.amazon.co.uk domain. By using a different domain name (www.assoc-amazon.co.uk) for the Link Update Script we stop the browser from sending Amazon cookies. Without this cookie we can not determine whether the user is a recognized Amazon visitor and therefore we can not access any customer information Amazon may have on file.
Q: How many links can be counted during the 400 milliseconds the Link Update Script runs?
A: Our testing indicated that several hundred links can be counted during the 400 millisecond run time. Performance does depend on individual computer speed.
